IMDB Rating: 7.2/10

Our Rating: 9/10

Superlatives:

Best Nic Cage Foe: John Travolta

Our Reviews:

Nic Cage and John Travolta desperately try to out-manic each other, and both succeed.

This movie has everything: Nic Cage as a headbanging, ass-grabbing manic priest; literal plastic surgery to swap faces; banging another man's wife while wearing his face; magnetic prison boots; a boat crash resulting in a massive, fiery explosion; a harpoon murder. It's beautiful.

Nic Cage was 100 percent empowered to imagine how he would act as a terrorist mastermind and really ran with it. Since watching this I found out that the weird future prison boots from the movie were also the same boots used for the Goombas in Super Mario Bros. movie, and I gotta say, I wasn't really surprised by that. #MichaelBaySeasoning

Imagine, if you will, a movie where you work backwards into writing the plot after having come up with the title. One has to engineer a plot device whereby one of the main characters literally takes the face of the other main character with a totally different body type and this is used (without any obvious scarring, of course) to infiltrate the trust of some weird nerd in a prison that uses the very cool but unnecessary detail of magnet-boots. That, my friends, is Face/Off.

Fun movie with gratuitous explosions. Over the top actor impersonating an over the top actor is utterly delightful. Began wondering halfway through if there are enough Nic Cage movies to make it through what I assumed would be a 6-8 week quarantine.
