Our Reviews:
Nic Cage reprises his role as Johnny Blaze in this sequel to the first Ghost Rider film. While this one doesn’t have the bonus of watching half the cast be visibly drunk during filming, this time around Nic Cage chose to play the Johnny Blaze/Ghost Rider character in a manic, Vampire’s Kiss/Bad Lieutenant cracked out fashion, which was thoroughly entertaining. Did I follow most of the plot? No. Did I enjoy watching Nic Cage get up in peoples’ faces while unhinging his jaw for insane breathy laughing and manic contorting before transforming into Ghost Rider and disintegrating people with flaming metal chains? Yes.
As with the first Ghost Rider movie, I am totally confused by the amount of investment the devil has in a limited number of forgettable characters. Other than that, I think Nic Cage rode around on a motorcycle a lot? His skull was on fire? Or something like that.
The first movie did not move me in the way one would typically expect from a story about a guy who is literally a demon dispensing justice from the back of a motorcycle, but this one was precisely what we needed: less Johnny Blaze backstory and sob dad tale, and more death dispensary.
I literally remember nothing about this movie except eyeliner and fire.
Nic Cage stars as the titular Ghost Rider yet again, this time to ruin Satan's relationship with his son. This is a tale as old as recent U.S. legal history, reaffirming the belief that children of divorce are better off in the custody of the mother in nearly all cases. Satan takes on a role that so many disenfranchised men in America have experienced—embodying the tragedy and pain that too many have had to unjustly face due to lawyers and judges riding their own metaphorical fiery motorcycles of death around inside courtrooms across this nation.
