Our Reviews:
I should start by noting that I was the only person in our group who didn’t like this movie at all. This is a hyper-stylized, black and white, quasi-parody version of classic B movies where mad scientist types and an eccentric ship captain fight off a monster lurking in Lake Michigan. Visually, it’s cool. However, I think it took itself way too seriously and was trying way hard to be quirky and funny. I don’t really have anything funny to say about this because it was too far in the middle between “so shitty it’s good” and “so good I can’t actually diss it.”
This movie brought to you by your quirky friend who disguises their alcoholism as a craft beer hobby, a bachelor's in film, and Adobe After Effects.
During this movie, I laughed, I didn't cry. 10 out of 10, I would make Lindsay watch this again.
I'm upset that this was even created.
Milwaukee is Chicago's quainter, more alcoholic little sister. We have our obvious differences, but one thing is for sure: our neighbors north of The Wall have the same reverence for Old Man Michigan, our shared Great Lake. They know the dangers that lie within and they also know you always send the jocky guy out into the water first when looking for monsters so the smart ones on shore can perform follow-up attacks. Aesthetically, this movie combined the best parts of a Wes Anderson film, a black & white Steamboat Willy short, and a White Owl packed with Green Northern Lights sativa.
Sleeper hit of 2020.
